Kiwicare® No Possums Gel Bait
No more possums

Kiwicare® No® Possums Cholecalciferol Gel Bait is an established and innovative bait, used to control possums. Unlike many other types of bait it is highly palatable to possums for long periods. It is effective for up to 26 months meaning there is no waste and it provides continuous control.
The custom designed station makes access difficult for some animals and holds high density gel matrix bait which is not attractive to birds and insects. No Possums Gel Bait contains 8g/kg of the active ingredient, cholecalciferol (vitamin D3), as well as complex carbohydrate attractants and orange oil, making it both extremely palatable and toxic to possums.
The bait stations are available in a high visibility yellow, assisting possums to sight the bait but it is also important to ensure that it is not obscured by branches or litter and is positioned so possums can easily feed from the station. For example, affixing the bait station about 300mm above the fork of a tree allows a possum easy access.
Registered pursuant to the ACVM Act 1997,
No V9507
The bait also contains Bitrex, the bitterest substance known to man and designed to deter pets and non-target animals from consuming it. Dyed green, the bait is not perceived as a food source by birds.
With the rapidity in which cholecalciferol breaks down in a possum, the risk of secondary poisoning to cats, dogs and other non-target species who eat the possum carcasses is significantly lower, compared to other toxins. However, primary poisoning is still a risk, so ensure all toxins are stored safely and out of reach when not in use, and positioned well out of the reach of pets and children when employed in the field.
Depending on the dose ingested, the time for the death of a possum to occur is typically 3-7 days. 20g of bait is the lethal dose required. Within 24 hours of bait consumption, the possum loses its appetite and will not eat any more bait.
Bait stations should be placed approximately 100m apart, preferably in areas of obvious possum activity, ie. where there is droppings, browsing damage, play trees and crop damage. Where dogs or stock are present, bait stations should be set at 2m above the ground.
Independent studies have shown the gel bait has a long life formula, retaining its palatability and effectiveness for up to 26 months. In field trials on the West Coast of the South Island, the Gel Bait withstood over 5m of rainfall over 2 years. In addition to its weatherproof capabilities, it is also not adversely affected by sunlight, UV or cold weather.
The No Possums Cholecalciferol Gel Bait is very easy to use, with no license required to purchase or apply the product.
