Lengths rodents will go to
As outside temperatures drop and natural food sources become scarce, rodents will head anywhere food is available. Farm buildings, storage sheds, silage pits and bales all provide a warm environment and unlimited food supply for these clever pests.
Rats and mice breed rapidly and can cause major damage to buildings and wiring while also contaminating feed and carrying disease. Thankfully, RD1 continue to offer Storm Secure®, the trusted name in rodent control which has been successfully used in New Zealand for over 20 years.

Which type of rodenticide should I be using?
There are two types of rodenticide currently available in New Zealand. First generation rodenticides have a shorter body half-life and may be excreted before they have had a chance to take effect. This means more and more bait is required before a lethal dose is achieved. Second generation baits such as Storm Secure require on average 90% less bait to be consumed before being effective. This makes using the product extremely cost-effective compared to other products and research has shown that Storm Secure has a cost-per-kill of around 2c per rodent, whereas others can be as high as 20c.
What else do I need to consider?
Effective baits must be attractive and palatable to rodents, and must remain so for long periods of time. Storm Secure is made from kibbled wheat but is still waterproof to prevent swelling and breaking up in damp conditions. Also included are a fungicide and insecticide to prevent bait going mouldy or being eaten by insects.
Storm Secure comes as a specially designed securable wax block to increase safety and prevent hoarding of baits which is common with other rodenticides. It also has a delayed action to ensure other pests are not alerted to the dangers of the bait, making it even more effective.
Storm Secure comes in handy 500g, 3kg and 10kg pack sizes, meaning all requirements are catered for. 10kg packs are available on order. Get rodent control underway, talk to the team at RD1 today.
